New album ‚Smile to the Clouds‘ due November 2023
Madrid based blues-rock singer-songwriter Gaby Jogeix is pleased to announce the upcoming album ‚Smile to the Clouds‚ due this November.
Drawing from a myriad of influences from rhythm and blues, soul and rock, some of the songs on Smile to the Clouds were written in collaboration with American musician Jeff Espinoza, and is produced by veteran Colombian & Spanish Producer Juan Guevara.
Gaby says: „i started writing songs in a different way, more song oriented, focusing on the message, and especially on my singing. It’s the first time in a long time i don’t cut a record based on a trip to Los Angeles (Hermosa Beach) or New Orleans (Meanwhile in New Orleans), and i could work on the album straight from the beginning with Juan Guevara. Fatherhood, stories from trips, relationships, the death of my mother (who first made me listen to gospel and rock’n’roll music), the war in Ukraine (he hosted a ukrainian mom and her daughter at his place with his family for 6 months), being positive and sunshine are the topics found on this album….”
Gaby Jogeix released his fourth album, ‚Meanwhile In New Orleans‘ in 2021 and was on the shortlist for the list of nominees for the ‚Best Americana Album‘ at the 2022 Grammy Awards. The mercurial musician has toured around the world both as an artist and as a producer for many international Spanish acts. Gaby Jogeix is a self-taught singer, guitarist, composer and songwriter. After releasing 4 albums, he has now fine tuned his musical ethos and sound, melding real life anecdotes and personal insights whilst paying homage to the blues, rock lineage, juxtaposing the old with his own modern inimitable touch.
“Gaby Jogeix is an impressive musician. His lap steel and electric guitar playing is very, very good. He’s creative and is not an imitator, although one can hear the influences of his musical masters.” (Bruce Iglauer, Alligator Records)
Born in Bilbao (Basque Country), of French and Spanish origin, Gaby Jogeix is one of the most renowned Spanish Rhythm’n’Blues artists having started playing since the age of 17 He also pioneered the lap steel guitar technique, blending the sounds of a lap steel and a regular slide guitar. Gaby explains: “The sounds that the slide transmits is the closest to the human voice you can find. This is what fascinated me and why I continued to work on its form.”
Gaby’s stay at the Summer School of Arts and Languages in Winchester (United Kingdom) further enhanced his interest in the arts, delving into English literature, theatre, music composition and body language, gave him unique insight to an artist who already possesses a mixture of cultures.
On the album we find guests like Jordan John („You will see, as his talent unfolds, that there is no end to it.“ – David Foster 16x Grammy Award Winning Producer), Jeff Espinoza, Nico Wayne Toussaint (James Cotton, Billy Branch, RJ Mischo, Luther Allison, Eddie C. Campbell, Vance Kelly, Jimmy Burns, Jimmy Johnson) and Blue Lou Marini (Aerosmith, Deodato, Maureen McGovern, Steely Dan, James Taylor, Dionne Warwick, the Buddy Rich Big Band, and the Woody Herman Orchestra, Frank Zappa & the Blues Brothers).
The album ‚Smile to the Clouds‘ will be released on EDEL Records and Chalkys.com on 11/03/2023.
Here are a few quotes from the last album „Meanwhile In New Orleans“.
„Gaby Jogeix’s „Meanwhile in New Orleans“ it’s nothing but the Real Deal !!! Southern soul, groove and sexiness are the bleeding thru all its track like you would expect and hope you’d get from a record like this. Gaby won us over and now we’re big fans !“
Supersonic Blues Machine 2019
“Very creative and good energy, looking forward to hear the music in a live venue”
Joe Louis Walker
“Gaby’s latest release is destined for true greatness. This album takes you on a soulful, funky, rocking ride. From the ever soulful Fair Green to the beautiful ballad I’m gonna get there. I love the gospel influenced Preaching with its super thick groove will make you get up and dance. This album has a wonderful flow to it and a great mix of grooves and fantastic story telling. I highly recommend it!”
Kirk Fletcher
“Sounds really rough and soulful, strong! I am happy to see that there is still music and guitarists who let their boards „suffer“.
Aichacher Zeitung
“ (…) The musical diversity of Gaby Jogeix is his strength, he has a great gift to integrate new currents , sounds and voices in his songs. It sounds inspired, intense, complex and dynamic. And when he enters the blues „Keep Your Laps“ at the end, the world is more than all right“.
Good Times Magazine 2-21
“For his musical abilities he is much too unknown and also the internet does not give enough reveal. „Hermosa beach“ appeared 2013 and in 2006 came an outstanding blues album with the title „Steel the blues“ on the market. In between I have not heard anything from him and and with the new album every note is a perfect homage to the blues genre and to New Orleans in particular. A great dexterity, surprising melodic arcs and always and again this haunting guitar. A great album with the necessary feeling.
